Organizers have opened registration for its seventh running of the DASH (Different Area, Same Hunt) puzzle hunt, finalized the list of the 15 participating cities, and have revealed event details.

Signups for DASH 7 will last through April 30, prices range from $40 – $45 per ticket based on the participating city, only one ticket is needed per team, with some locations charging an additional $3.19 processing fee. London is charging £25.00 with a £2.15 processing fee. Some locations are offering a limited amount of tickets, so don’t dawdle.

Following registration, teams will be contacted directly by a representative from that city concerning further details and the puzzle hunt’s starting location.

DASH has added five cities since announcing its first wave of locations in Jan. A lead for Toronto had expressed interest late in the development process, but was unable to pull together a team in time to secure a berth for the city.

This year’s event ties DASH 5 for having the most puzzle hunt sites.

DASH 7 Participating Cities:

  • Austin, Texas
  • Boston
  • Chicago
  • Davis, Calif.
  • Denver
  • London
  • Minneapolis
  • New York
  • Portland
  • San Francisco
  • San Jose, Calif.
  • Santa Monica, Calif.
  • Seattle
  • St. Louis
  • Washington D.C.

DASH 7 will take place on May 30, beginning at 10 a.m. for each city’s local time, running until 7 p.m. that same evening.

There are two experience levels, new and expert level solving, with cities, Chicago, Davis, Calif., London, New York, Seattle, St. Louis, Washington D.C. offering a Junior level of competition. Expert team will be given “the full, unsimplified, version of every puzzle” and will be ranked in DASH’s rankings.

The Junior hunt will feature puzzles that are “simplified versions of the puzzles” and teams will need to be between 10 – 16-years old and have an adult chaperon. Don’t get any delusions of grandeur, adults are not allowed to help solve the puzzles.

Teams are restricted to three to six players in size and are expected to take an average of seven hours to complete.

All teams will be required to have a phone with the Cluekeeper app installed, which runs on either Android or iOS. Cluekeeper is offered as a free download through Google Play and the Apple’s App Store.

This year’s theme will be based on the Harry Potter fantasy series by J.K. Rowling that follows the story of a young boy by the same name through his school life at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and Harry’s struggle to overcome the dark wizard Lord Voldemort.

The international directors for DASH 7 are Yuan Niu and Channing Wong.

DASH was founded in 2009 by Greg deBeer, Debbie Goldstein, and Jesse Morris, with the first puzzle hunt debuting on Sept. 13 of that year.
