Bonza Teams Up With National Geographic
MiniMega, the developers of the hit word puzzle game Bonza, have announced that they will be teaming up with National Geographic to create the sequel, Bonza National Geographic, due to release in 2015.
“There’s not much to show at this stage…” related the Australian game development studio. “[There] will be hundreds of new Bonza puzzles based on National Geographic themes. And of course, the game will feature stunning photography from the National Geographic image library.”
MiniMega expects to announce additional features for Bonza National Geographic this coming March.
Bonza takes a finished crossword puzzle and breaks it apart into a word-based jigsaw puzzle. Players will have to remake the crossword’s solution using their jigsaw and word skills, while ensuring that all of the words within the grid are somehow related to the clue.
Free daily puzzles are delivered through the app that are designed by the Bonza community or are related to current events. There are puzzle packs available as in-app purchases, designed by some of the stars of the puzzle world including Grant Fikes, David Millar, and Patrick Blindauer.
“We’ve always respected and admired National Geographic so it’s an honour to be working with them. We’re looking forward to making something magical,” said Ben Huxter, Creative Director for MiniMega.
A specific release date for Bonza National Geographic has yet-to-be revealed, MiniMega only saying that it will be coming “later this year.”
Bonza was originally released for iOS on March 20, 2014 and would go on to earn a distinguished spot on Apple App Store’s Best of 2014.
The original Bonza can be purchased on iOS and Android for 99¢.
