Sudoku Mahabaharat: Outside Variations, Results

Results for Sudoku Mahabharat: Outside Variations, the fourth leg of Logic Masters India’s (LMI) puzzle tournament, were officially released for both the Indian and international divisions late Wednesday.

Amit Sowani was the highest place holder in the Indian division, amassing 85 points in a time of 89:02, submitting 13 puzzles each with correct solutions. Kishore Kumar made second with 84.7 points and Rajesh Kumar followed with 84.6 points.

Prasanna Seshadri earned the top position amongst Indian contestants, with a time of 51:03 and 137.1 points, answering each of the 18 puzzles correctly, but was ineligible due to his authorship for one of the tournament’s stages.

Jakub from the Czech Republic took first place in the international division and overall, finishing in 38:33 and having answered each of the puzzles correctly, amassing 151.4 points. Japan’s Kota Morinishi and Tiit Vunk of Estonia rounded out the top three internationally and overall.

Each of the puzzles featured in the contest were designed by Rakesh Rai, including Sudoku variants like Descriptive Pair, Outside, and Skyscraper.

The next leg of the tournament series will be Sudoku Mahabharat: Math, which will begin Jan. 17, 2015 and run through Jan. 19. Puzzles featured will be authored by Seshadri and will be math-based variations of Sudoku.

Every phase of the contest is free to participate in, only requiring a no-cost membership to LMI’s website.

  • Irregular: Oct. 18 – 20
  • Odd-Even: Nov. 15 – 17
  • Outside: Dec. 20 – 22
  • Math: Jan. 17 – 19
  • Neighbors: Feb. 21 – 23
  • Converse: March 21 – 23
  • Finals: May 10

* All dates are for local Indian time. For those in EST, the legs tournament will begin the day before, e.g. Standard begins on Sept. 19.
